- Idealized influence, or charisma: Transformational leaders have an uncanny ability to make you want to follow the vision they establish. I have been able to start to create idealized influence through my leadership of the Chinese Social Club, and I plan to continue to build the club as a group of students that wish to celebrate Chinese culture.
- Inspirational motivation: Communication is a vehicle of inspiration for transformational leaders; they use words to encourage others and inspire action. I need to enhance my communication skills. I plan to do this through further academic study. I also plan to do this through leaders I find inspiring. When I enter the workforce, I plan on finding someone who can mentor me and teach me how to communicate effectively to those leaders lead.
- Intellectual stimulation: Transformational leaders stretch others to think more deeply, challenge assumptions, and innovate. To build this skill, I need to take steps to allow followers to give true and honest feedback. I received some recently through a Leadership 360 evaluation, and I believe that doing similar surveys EVERY year will allow me to identify areas of weakness and see how I have been working to strengthen them.
- Individualized concern: Finally, while focused on the common good, transformational leaders show care and concern for individuals. I will continue to build this skill through my actions in the community and in the Chinese Social Club. I understand that people are not numbers and they should never be characterized as such. Finding ways to understand every part of the machine will allow me to adapt my leadership style to different people and make them more effective.
